The concept for this installation derived from the heritage of the location. Parktown is one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs sprouting to life in the height of the Gold Rush. Bluegum trees where originally brought over from Australia for they where strong and fast growing to sustain not only the mining industry, but also the towns. Today these trees line countless avenues as a subtle reminder of the precious discovery that brought us all together.
The installation mimics the geometric symmetries found throughout the space to express an abstracted landscape. Over 3100 individual leaves create an open network of shadows, with a flicker of golf leaf to inspirit our normal perception of art.
