The delicate teacup installation was created as a signature piece for a flagship store. The artwork is inspired by the tradition of high tea and consists of 220 individually crafted pieces suspended over 8 meters. The intention was to create a piece that speaks to the intricacy and beauty expressed in craftsmanship, both in the artwork itself and the skill of the artisan bakery and patisserie.
The creative process utilized a variety of techniques. Each piece is generated and refined through a series of hand-made maquettes, before finally being unfolded and digitized. An extra layer of texture was introduced through blind embossing to slightly alter the opacity of the pieces, creating depth. The sheets were then dried before cutting and assembled by hand. No glue was used only a series of friction locks.
The cafe is a transient space where culinary innovation fuses with an outdoor terrace atmosphere. The installation is suspended from a curved ceiling creating a sense of whimsy and momentary delight as they gently sway.
